Berlin…You Continue to Surprise

Today marks the 6th day of my trip. With only 4 short days left I intend to cover Amsterdam and London. However, not before acknowledging everything I've seen and learned in Berlin/Germany.

Berlin continues to be an amazing tribute to the resiliency of the German people. Kings (Kaisers), ruthless leaders and unfair international policies have not been kind. However, the German people have thrived.

I had a chance to cover a lot of ground today:

  1. Starting off with a walk through the city streets at 5:45AM. I woke up early to go see the city as the sun started to rise and had a chance to take a lot of cool photos of the graffiti and parks scattered throughout the city. I have posted some pictures below. It felt great to walk the city as it came to life on a busy Tuesday morning.
  2. I then headed out to a guided tour of Potsdam. This is a place just west of Berlin and is a city in itself. Potsdam has a rich history and is specifically known for having housed the 4 great kings of Germany's past. Fredrick the great has erected a few magnificent castles to celebrate the success he had in ruling Prussia. You can read more about Prussia here.
    • Note: the houses near the gate were the servant's quarters. Man - did they live in style!
  3. After finishing the tour, I headed back to the hostel for a well deserved nap. This was followed by dinner with a new roommate and a fellow visitor in the hostel. We walked the streets, enjoyed a great bowl of ramen, and headed off to see what the Berlin nightlife had to offer. Our adventure took us to a different part of the city where we settled down in a cosy bar to partake in some Pilsner beer. I really enjoy intellectual conversations, and therefore it only seems fit that we engaged in a good old fashioned debate. Decided to call it a night @ 1AM,  and took a taxi back as the metro closed at 12:30AM.

Finally sitting back in bed, having recounted another day, it feels great to take in how much I've been able to accomplish under my own direction. Meeting people, connecting with them, and learning about the different cultures of the world really does help expand my perspective. Danke Shuz Berlin! (Thanks Berlin!)
